Department of Botany, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized a one day workshop entitled “Plant-Microbe Interactions; Bio-tools for sustainable agriculture and industry”. Dr. (Mrs.) Neera Garg, Professor, Deptt. of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh Conducted this workshop. She highlighted the importance of bio-fertilizers and plant growth promoting bacteria, Sulphur solubilizing microbes, their role and importance in sustainable agriculture. She explained to the students the importance of Nitrogen-fixing bacteria and their role in nutrient acquisition. The role of these microbes in the biotic stress tolerance such as salt, water, and heavy metals was highlighted. In the Practical session, the demonstration of the method of culturing of micro-organisms, plant-microbe symbiotic association, different staining techniques of microbial associations, the fresh cross-section of heavily infected nodules was demonstrated. Students of B.Sc. Medical attended the workshop. The highly interactive session enriched the students immensely. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Mukti Gill applauded the efforts of the staff members for organizing the highly engaging and informative workshop.
